The first of a six part masterclass series of webinars called BAME Women in Leadership is a collaboration between the Office of the Provost at the University of Bolton and She Inspires. This masterclass webinar looks at the work of Barrister Priya Solanki.
State school educated Boltonian, Priya Solanki, was called to the Bar in 2008. She commenced pupillage at a set in London in 2012, completing the same in 2013. She is now a specialist immigration, asylum, nationality, human rights and public law barrister at One Pump Court Chambers, London.
She has a very busy practice, being instructed in appeals, administrative reviews and judicial review and challenges against decisions of the Secretary of State for the Home Department.
Priya provides training for immigration and asylum practitioners through organisations such as ILPA, MBL, The Solicitors Group and others.
She has been involved in several notable cases, for example, QH v Secretary of State for the Home Department  EWHC 2691 (Admin), Secretary of State for the Home Department v Said & Ors  EWCA Civ 627.
Priya has been ranked in Legal 500 as a leading junior in immigration since 2017. The Directory states “she has a sharp mind and demonstrates excellent client care”, “she is tactically astute, good under pressure and very persuasive in court” and “she is very knowledgeable in presenting appeals.”
Priya is also a Trustee at a charity that supports single Asian mothers who have been subjected to domestic violence, Maa Shanti.
The webinar will provide an insight into how Priya became a Barrister, the efforts being made to encourage diversity at the Bar, and an anonymised synopsis of a couple of the cases she has been involved in. The webinar will be chaired by the Rt Hon. Baroness Warsi who also works as a Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University.
