“I strongly believe prevention is better than cure.” A quote from Indira Tailor, a woman who plays a massive part in improving Diabetes care in the Bolton community. Indira has organised many events in her volunteer work as a Diabetes Champion, delivering presentations at multiple events in numerous languages to help prevent diabetes. She has reached out to black minorities, the homeless and refugees too in her work for diabetes care.
Indira is a member of the BPAC (Bolton People Affected by Cancer), and campaigned for fourteen years with fellow members to produce Macmillan Cancer Information Support Services (MCISS), to improve cancer care in Bolton.
Indira provides emotional and financial support for Cancer victims at the four annual cancer information events that they organise, and has even presented the ‘Living with & beyond Cancer’ project for BME communities in both English and Gujarati.
As well as playing a pivotal role in the above organisations, Indira has also been her brother-in-law’s carer for the last six years – who has progressive dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She arranged sheltered accommodation for him close by to his relatives when his condition worsened, visiting him daily & attending to his needs.
Congratulations Indira! You’ve achieved so much! #HealthandSocialCare #Winner
